I need to get an activation key for a device that's been upgraded from win 7 to 10 S, i'm going to buy an activation key from a reseller but only see offerings for Home or Pro, which do I need to buy and does anyone have any suggestions of where to buy it from?

Thanks in advance. H

What is Win10 S?

You need to purchase the correct license for the version you are installing.

If you buy a Pro activation key, you need to install W10 Pro.

I think windows 10 S is only sold on devices, not available for separate purchase.

At least that is what is stated in this article from 2017. PCWorld

Windows 10 S is the version of Windows 10 that will only run apps from the Microsoft Store.  More info here.

Correct; Windows 10 S is only available via OEM - preinstalled.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your reply, after inputting my activation key for windows 10 pro I proceeded to try and download standard office apps and through the office 365 online portal. I'm now receiving a message when I attempt to do anything from run the command prompt to download office apps which reads

'your organisation used windows defender application control to block this app'

any ideas on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance H

Hmmmmm... I'm not positive on the issue, but doing a quick Bing search I found this in the Microsoft forums: Message that "Your organization used Windows Defender Application Control to block this app" - any help in this thread?
